The International Community Service program is an integral part of the 8th ICORE x The 2nd ICSEMA 2026 Joint Conference, designed to create a meaningful impact on local communities through international collaboration and knowledge exchange. This initiative brings together academics, researchers, and practitioners from Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Indonesia), Universiti Utara Malaysia (Malaysia), and Hebei University (China) to support the development of sustainable local economies.

Through this program, participants will engage directly with local communities and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices related to sustainable business development. Activities may include community discussions, training sessions, mentoring programs, and collaborative problem-solving focused on strengthening local economic resilience while maintaining social and environmental sustainability.

The International Community Service program also encourages cross-cultural learning and international cooperation. By connecting global academic perspectives with local community needs, this initiative aims to generate practical solutions that empower local entrepreneurs and communities to develop sustainable economic activities based on local resources, culture, and innovation. Ultimately, this program seeks to strengthen the role of local economies as a foundation for inclusive and sustainable global development.

International PKM Theme

“Strengthening Sustainable Local Economies through Community Empowerment and Responsible Entrepreneurship.”

Background
Local economies play a fundamental role in achieving sustainable global development. Communities that rely on local resources, small businesses, and traditional knowledge often demonstrate resilience in facing economic and social challenges. Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), particularly in rural and tourism-based communities, are important drivers of employment, income generation, and cultural preservation.

However, many local businesses still face various challenges that limit their ability to grow sustainably. These challenges include limited access to knowledge on sustainable business practices, lack of strategic management skills, and difficulties in integrating environmental and social considerations into their economic activities. Without proper support and empowerment, local economic potential may not be fully optimized.

In line with the theme “Reimagining Local Economies for Sustainable Global Development,” it is important to rethink how local communities and MSMEs can strengthen their economic activities while maintaining environmental sustainability and social well-being. Sustainable local economic development requires collaboration between academia, practitioners, policymakers, and the community itself.

Therefore, the International Community Service program within the 8th ICORE x 2nd ICSEMA 2026 aims to support local communities through knowledge sharing, training, and collaborative engagement. By introducing sustainable entrepreneurship principles and strengthening community-based economic strategies, this program is expected to help local MSMEs improve their resilience, competitiveness, and contribution to sustainable development.

Objectives

  1. To strengthen the capacity of local MSMEs and community-based businesses in implementing sustainable and responsible business practices.
  2. To support the development of local economies by encouraging the utilization of local resources, cultural heritage, and community-based entrepreneurship.
  3. To enhance community awareness of sustainability principles in economic activities, including environmental preservation and social responsibility.
  4. To facilitate knowledge exchange between international academics, practitioners, and local communities in developing sustainable economic solutions.
  5. To contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through community empowerment and sustainable local economic development.
